Product Care

Our products are free of preservatives and stabilizers, and upon receiving, most should be enjoyed or stored using our guidance. Consult our list below for the best way to enjoy your products from The Gingerbread Construction Co.

Gingerbread Products

Please note that gingerbread - as a product - is greatly affected by the weather. We do not use preservatives or shelf stabilizers. In cooler months, our gingerbread will have a crunch on the outside, with a chewy inside. In the warmer months, it is soft on the outside and chewy on the inside. It’s delicious either way! 

Gingerbread Houses

When left in the clear plastic box the gingerbread house was received in, gingerbread houses remains fresh for approximately 3 weeks, depending on its environment. Once removed from the box, it should be enjoyed immediately, and any remaining product should be placed back in the sealed box. The longer it is out of the sealed box, the faster the product will dry out. Store away from any direct heat.

Gingerbread Cookies

Individually wrapped gingerbread cookies stay fresh for 1 - 2 weeks when left in their clear plastic wrapper. Once removed from their wrapper, they should be consumed the same day. If you prefer to save your cookies to enjoy at a later date, they freeze very well. When kept in their wrappers, gingerbread cookies can be frozen for up to 3 months. Remove from the freezer 30 minutes before enjoying.

 

Decorating Kits

Cookie Decorating Kits (Gingerbread & Sugar)

The cookies can be left in their wrappers for 2-3 weeks. Alternatively, you can remove the cookies from the kits, and freeze for up to 2 - 3 months. Royal icing can be frozen for the same amount of time. When you're ready to use the icing, bring the icing to room temperature and then knead well to reincorporate any separation. Candy can be left at room temperature and kept sealed until it's ready to be used.

 

House Decorating Kits

The house can be left shrink wrapped as it arrived for 2-3 weeks. Alternatively,  freeze for up to 2 - 3 months if you have the room in your freezer (it must be left wrapped on its board). If you selected your house to arrive with royal icing, it can be frozen for the same amount of time. When you're ready to use the icing, bring the icing to room temperature and then stir well to reincorporate any separation. Candy can be left at room temperature and kept sealed until it's ready to be used.

Additional Product Care Information

Muffin Loaves

All varieties of muffin loaves can be cared for the same way. These products do not use preservatives or shelf stabilizers, and therefore should be consumed within 1 -2 days of receiving and refrigerated after opening. If you prefer to save your loaf to enjoy at a later date, the loaf can be kept in its sealed container and put in the freezer for up to 3 months. Remove from the freezer about 2 hours before slicing and enjoying. 

Before sharing your muffin loaves, we recommend placing in the freezer for 15 minutes for easier slicing.

Gourmet Cookies

Gourmet cookies are baked fresh daily. These products should be consumed within 1 – 2 days of receiving. This product should not be frozen and consumed at a later date.

Sugar Cookies

Sugar cookies are baked fresh daily. These products should be consumed within 3 - 5 days of receiving. They can be left in their wrappers and frozen for 1 - 3 months. Some bleeding from the colored sugar may be left on the cookie if frozen and thawed.

Biscotti

Our traditional biscotti (translates to twice baked) are crispy and crunchy. These cookies keep for 2 – 3 weeks in their resealable packaging. They should not be frozen.

Brownies

Rich chocolate brownies are baked fresh daily and should be consumed within 1 – 2 days of receiving. They can be frozen for up to 1 - 3 months if left in their wrappers.

Muffins

Our decadent muffins are intended to be enjoyed upon purchasing. But in the event that you have to delay your enjoyment, they can be refrigerated for 1-2 days until you’re ready to dig in. If you’d like to prolong the life of your muffins, they can be individually wrapped in plastic wrap, and then sealed tight in a freezer safe container. Muffins can be kept frozen for approximately 2 weeks, and take about 1 - 2 hours to thaw.
